A mattress consisting of transverse, inflatable tubes which are usually 15-12 cm in diameter. Alternate tubes are linked in series to a pump working on a fixed cycle so that each alternate tube is inflating while the tube next to it is deflating. Thus the area of compression between skin and mattress changes on a regular cycle, helping to prevent the formation of decubitus ulcers or bed sores. 1, record 1, English, - ripple%20mattress

Colchón de aire de presión intermitente. Está formado por una enorme cantidad de rombitos inflables cuyo aporte de aire tiene diferentes e independientes conductos de origen. Una vez inflado, el colchón requiere de una fuente de poder o batería que gobierna su funcionamiento. Un pequeño regulador que forma parte del equipo, desinfla unos rombitos e infla otros, modificando o alternando la presión en ellos, con una frecuencia de cada 15 segundos.
